Generative AI in Teaching – Getting Started

Local presentations

We are also happy to do workshops on generative AI locally, if you can gather a group of at least 10 participants. Please contact us with your requirements at bjonshoj@au.dk.

Objective

This course provides you as an educator with a foundational understanding of generative AI, enabling you to navigate and use the technology in a meaningfull way in your teaching. The course aims to strengthen your pedagogical skills to integrate generative AI in ways that support student learning, critical thinking, and academic integrity.

Learning outcome

  • You will gain basic knowledge of generative AI.

  • You will acquire fundamental prompting techniques.

  • You will reflect on how generative AI applies to your discipline and teaching practices.

Content

The course is conducted as a hands-on workshop with presentations, discussions, and activities. It includes a general introduction to generative AI and chatbots, where you will gain experience with basic functions in tools such as ChatGPT and Copilot, along with pedagogical use cases. The practical exercises and activities will be based on your own teaching practice, giving you the opportunity to explore how generative AI can be used meaningfully in your own teaching. There will be opportunities for pedagogical and practical guidance and support along the way, based on your teaching context.

Prerequisites

This course is aimed at educators with little or no experience with generative AI.

The course may be relevant for educators who already have experience with generative AI but are looking for pedagogical upskilling and sparring.
