Create teaching content that activates students with the tool H5P

In a new course about the H5P tool, you can further develop your Brightspace competencies and get even more opportunities to create exciting and student-activating teaching content.

H5P is a programme with more than 40 different small tools for creating interactive content to use in your teaching. It has already been used in various academic environments at AU for several years and has now been made available via Brightspace. With a new introductory course on H5P, the CED wish to enable even more teachers at AU the opportunity to create targeted content for their students via the tool.

Christian Winther Bech, who is an IT coordinator at the CED and who has helped develop the course, has excellent experiences with H5P and is looking forward to helping even more teachers become familiar with the tool.

"Based on the positive experiences from teaching staff who have used H5P, we educational developers agree that the tool supports the students’ learning outcomes in various programmes, courses, and teaching situations. Among other things, the use of H5P has produced great results in courses where the academic content is extensive,” he says.

H5P offers new opportunities in Brightspace

The course is an introductory course to the use of H5P in teaching contexts and participants will gain hands-on experience in building content with the tool. The purpose of the course is to provide teaching staff with more tools to create activating teaching. Among other things, this could be when working with the production of graphic and interactive material in Brightspace such as quizzes, videos, interactive books, and learning paths.

Even though the course is introductory, it is a good idea that participants have basic knowledge about the many functions of Brightspace before the course. The course aims to further build on the competencies that the participants have:

“The course is part of the objective to expand the use of Brightspace and build on already existing Brightspace competencies of the teaching staff,” Christian Winter Bech explains.

Basic knowledge of Brightspace can also be acquired in the course Brightspace Basic – Get off to a good start.

Practice-oriented structure

The course is a short introductory course with a duration of about 1.5 hours. It consists of a short presentation followed by access to and hands-on exercises in H5P. In the last half hour, you will have time to test out your own ideas and focus on individual challenges.

An important consideration in connection with the organisation of the course has been to make it relevant to everyone even though people may come from widely differing academic environments:

"The course is built to be introductory and practical as we want teachers to work with their own practice and their unique teaching situation in their specific context,” Christian Winther Bech says.

After the course, the CED provides the support you need so that you are not alone in the preparation, test runs, and practice in the interactive graphic content.
