Study groups – what to consider?

Objective

The aim of the workshop is to give participants the possibility to revise or develop practice regarding how to establish and use study groups in local educational context.

Learning outcome

Based on the workshop, the participants will be able to:

  • Describe purpose of study group in local educational context
  • Relate purpose of study groups with group tasks and intended learning outcomes.
  • Consider relevant ways to establish study groups.
  • Produce suggestions for change of practices in own educational context regarding study groups.

Content

The workshop briefly introduces relevant and current research about study groups. Based on this, participants will work on how to use study groups in local educational context.

During the workshop the participants will go through five steps representing important aspects regarding educational design with study groups:

  1. Why study groups?
  2. What is the task and purpose of study groups?
  3. How to establish and form study groups?
  4. How to incorporate the work of study groups in teaching?
  5. How does working in study groups contribute to the competence profile of the education?

It would be an advantage if more than one participant from the degree programme is involved in the workshop.

  • Target group: student teachers/instructors, assistant professors, postdocs, senior VIP, module coordinators, directors of studies, and heads of degree programme
